Inferences

Today’s lesson was on the power and limitations of inferences. I asked the kids to infer some things about me based off what they know about me, including my race. Upon telling them about my black boyfriend, I heard a lot of squealing and exclaiming, including the following: “Ms. Graham, you like CHOCOLATE!” ~ “I knew it! I TOLD you!” ~ “SOUL FOOOOOOD!” ~ “Look at her butt. That’s why.” ~ “I’m not surprised. Ms. Graham. You act black.”
